- In-person sessions about three times per month
on Saturdays, typically 9am – Noon. Locations
throughout Santa Barbara County - Weekly reading and/or lecture. Lectures
primarily pre-recorded, though some will be live
via Zoom.
Lectures and in-person sessions led by UC and local
experts. Proposed topics include:
- Horticulture
- Soil and fertilizer management
- Water management
- Pest control (IPM)
- Entomology
- Plant pathology and plant problem diagnosis
- Weed management
- Vertebrate pests
- Common garden plants: vegetables, citrus,avocado, roses, berries, grapes

Trudy will describe the challenges facing the monarch, the role of milkweed, and what you can do at home in your garden to help assist the Monarch. Please join us for this important and informative talk.
Registration is not required. Attendance is limited, plan to arrive early.

Garden invite you to join us for a free workshop, “Fruit-Tree Summer Pruning - Practical Tips and Hands-On Experience,” to be held on Saturday, August 19,
2023, from 10 am-12 pm. Larry Saltzman, Permaculture Designer at Mesa
Harmony Garden, and UC Master Gardener Russ Baldocchi, will share a
research-based presentation, first discussing elements of summer pruning to
enable control of both the size of plants and fruit quality, followed by hands-on practical experience in teams led by experienced pruners. This is an in-depth treatment of this essential part of the backyard tree-care calendar.
Bring your own gloves and pruners if you have them, but don’t worry if you
don't!

"Victory Vegetable Gardening for TRUE Beginners"

Register now for the UC Master Gardeners of Santa Barbara County online "Victory Vegetable Gardening for TRUE Beginners" series.
Offered October 15, 22, 29, and November 5 from 10am -12 pm.
Two-hour classes are held once each week for four weeks.
This popular series walks new gardeners through the whole process of growing food at home: Site selection, watering, pest control, harvesting, and everything in between! Participants who complete all four class sessions will receive a Certificate of Completion from the UC Master Gardener Program.

UC Master Gardeners Announce Online Gardening Series for TRUE Beginners

University of California Master Gardeners of Santa Barbara County announce an online series of gardening classes for true beginners, modeled after the popular World War II Victory Vegetable Gardens. The four classes take attendees through the basics of successful vegetable gardening in our area.
Registration is limited to 25 people and is filling quickly!

The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Master Gardeners of Santa Barbara County will present a free one hour public workshop, “Fabulous Drought Tolerant Herbs”on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 11:00A. The workshop will be held at Seaside Gardens and Nursery, 3700 Via Real, Carpinteria, CA 93013, will be presented by Master Gardener Katy Renner.
During the event, the speaker will provide information on the following topics:
- The best herbs for our Mediterranean climate
- Herbs that are drought tolerant
- How to grow and care for herbs
- Harvesting herbs

Billy Goodnick: Billy is a Landscape Architect, author and speaker who has, for many years, been teaching homeowners in a upbeat and inventive manner how to create beautiful, useful, and sustainable gardens.

Sensational South African Plants For your Garden

The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Master Gardeners of Santa Barbara County will present a free one hour public workshop, “Sensational South African Plants For Your Garden”.
When: Sunday, February 23, 2014 at 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM.
Where: Seaside Gardens, 3700 Via Real, Carpinteria, CA.

Presented by 2012 Master Gardener Joan Kreiss, with Jo O’Connell of Australian Native Plant Nursery, and Laurence Nicklin, a noted horticulturalist from South Africa.
Ms. O’Connell will have South African plants to display.
During the event, the speakers will provide information on:
• Mediterranean Climate
• South African plant families and species
• Planting and caring for South African plants
Following the presentation, Mr. Nicklin will lead a tour of the South African Demonstration Garden at Seaside Gardens.

- Seed propagation by season

Master Gardener Orientation for the 2014 Trainee Class

The Master Gardeners of Santa Barbara County will present an orientation on how to become a member of the 2014 Master Gardener Trainee Class. The orientation will be followed by a Q&A session with current Santa Barbara County Master Gardeners. Refreshment and snacks will also be provided.
